How Our Brackets Work – Simple, Fast Assembly

Will These Brackets Work for Your Garden?

Our brackets are engineered exclusively for standard UK H-shaped concrete fence posts with a front bevel (phase) of 80–105 mm.
If your posts fall within this range, you can upgrade old panel fencing to a modern slatted design without removing the concrete posts.

Important Notes
• Leaning Posts
Slight leaning (up to ~7 cm) is normally acceptable.
However, posts leaning 20 cm or more should be corrected before installation to ensure a stable and long-lasting result.

If a post leans inward or outward more than the bracket can compensate for, the alignment can be corrected when installing the vertical timber stud.
In some cases, a second timber stud may be added (as shown in the illustration) to achieve full adjustment.

• Corner & Non-Standard Posts
Our brackets do not fit corner posts or specialised/non-standard concrete posts.
Corner connections must be fastened or adapted individually depending on your property and layout.

• Garden Space Considerations
When a concrete post leans into the garden, your new slatted fence may end up sitting slightly further inside the boundary.
This shift can sometimes be reduced by using a narrower timber stud (2×2 inch) and installing up to four brackets, giving you a vertical wooden stud on each side of the concrete post. This helps keep the structure as tight, straight, and efficient as possible.

How to install the slatted fence with our Bracket System

1. Install the brackets.
Slide two brackets down from the top of the concrete post — one positioned near the top and one near the bottom. The brackets are designed to sit neatly around the bevelled edge of standard H-shaped concrete fence posts.

To secure them, tighten each bracket using a bolt and nut (with the plate included), or temporarily wedge a small piece of timber between the bracket and the post to hold it in place while you work.

If the existing fence panels have lips or shapes that interfere with the bracket, you may need to make a small trim or adjustment so the brackets can slide fully into position. This is normal and usually takes only a moment.

2. Install the vertical studs.
We normally use 2×3-inch treated structural timber for 1.8 m high slatted fences. Consider painting or treating the studs before installation.

Begin by fixing one stud at each end of your fence run. Insert screws through the 7 mm bracket holes, ensuring the screw heads are wider than the holes so they tighten securely. Check that each stud is plumb and level, then tighten the screws fully to lock it in place.

Once both end studs are installed, stretch a straight reference line between them, maintaining a 3 mm clearance at the top and bottom so the line does not bow outward. This ensures all intermediate studs stay straight and properly aligned. You can now install the remaining studs quickly and accurately along the fence line.

If the original fence line sits too far into the garden, adjust the reference line slightly to bring the new slatted fence back into the desired position.

Foundation requirement
Because a slatted fence carries structural load, every vertical timber stud must be supported by a stable foundation point. This can be created by installing a small concrete footing beneath each stud, using compacted stone, or integrating an appropriate structural support bracket.

Never place timber directly into soil — ground contact accelerates rot and significantly reduces lifespan. A solid, dry bearing surface ensures proper alignment, prevents long-term settlement, and maintains the stability of the entire fence system.

3. Install the slatted fence boards.
For the slats, we typically use 2×1-inch treated material. Treat or paint the timber before assembly using spray paint or brush application.

Start at the lowest point and level the first slat. Maintain an approximately 12 mm gap between each row. Fix the slats to the studs with weather-resistant screws that penetrate roughly 50 mm into the stud. Use screws with small heads for a cleaner finish.

Once you reach the top of the fence, consider adding additional vertical studs in areas where extra support is neededt. Horizontal slatted fences may require more work to follow uneven ground or natural slopes.
